Shakespeare's classic tale of "star-crossed lovers" is my favorite of his plays. It has romance and action but it also raises serious questions regarding issues that were important in Shakespeare's time and remain so today.
Romeo and Juliet has been filmed a number of times and in several altered guises. My favorite, by far, is Franco Zeffirelli's 1968 version, starring Leonard Whiting and Olivia Hussey. I also greatly enjoyed Baz Luhrmann's1996 production, in which Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes took on the roles in a version that reset the story in contemporary South Florida.
